Volunteers Needed

Board Member: Marketing Chair - Need immediately

Total Time required: 1-4 hours per week, depending on the week.
Ideally this person possesses a background in marketing and has professionally demonstrated an ability to utilize the resources of the day to appropriately further an organization and demonstrates a passion for the Symphonic arts. Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Finding additional members of the Marketing Committee to fulfill these tasks:
  • Write/send out press releases
  • Content for email campaigns
  • Manager(s) of audience lists (phone, mail, text, email)
  • Liaisons with public/private/charter/home schools
  • Copyist for publicity
  • Manager of various online calendar postings


Soliciting Sponsors - Need Immediately

Total time required: 1-5 hours per week

We need a higher operating budget. But we need sponsors. Additionally, our goal is to have every member paid something; at least to cover gas, babysitting and instrument repairs!
We need to help soliciting Sponsorships for:
  • Performances (i.e. in the playbill and concert insert: "This performance is brought to you by ___")
  • Musicians (i.e. in the playbill the conductor, principal and section will have a sponsor listed)
Sponsorships will get us the visibility and the funds needed to be able to thrive. More details on Sponsorships
Can use multiple volunteers for this job. Coordinate with each other and break down different business types to approach:
  • Provo Center Street/University Ave
  • Restaurants on Center Street
  • Businesses established/created in Utah Valley
  • Businesses unique to Utah Vally (i.e. family friendly)



Board President - Need Immediately

Total Time required: 1-4 hours per week.
  • Conducts Board meetings
  • Gives Annual Report of Board to the Symphony
  • Approves expenditures
  • Calls meetings of the Executive Board as needed
  • Signs contracts with Covey Center
  • Receive donations and deposit. Write Thank You notes.
  • Helps in recruiting new board members



Librarian - Need Immediately

Total Time required: 1-2 hours before each concert, and 2-3 hours after each concert. Plus 4-6 extra hours on occasions between or during seasons for extra things as they come up.
  • Catalog (number) and take inventory of all the symphony music, organize and re-organize it as needed.
  • Hold the music library keys.
  • Pass out the music before rehearsal and put it in concert order and back where it goes after a concert (sort and file the music).
  • Promote correct copyright laws by throwing copied music away and reporting missing parts so they can be reordered.



Board Member(s)- Business focus

Total Time required: 1-4 hours per week, depending on the week.
Ideally this person possesses a background in business and has professionally demonstrated an ability to utilize the resources of the day to appropriately further an organization and demonstrates a passion for the Symphonic arts. Duties include but are not limited to
  • Splitting costs with participating groups in our concerts.
  • How to foster business involvement with the Symphony and vice versa.
  • Any other items that would relate to running the Symphony with more of a business mind set, yet within the boundries of a non-profit.



Grant Writing

Total Time required: depends on how many grants. 5% stipend may be included, if grant is funded.

Complete known grant applications prior to deadlines. Find new grants, complete and submit.
Great for the detailed oriented person.



Grant Reporting

Total Time required: 3-6 hours once every 6 months.

For each of our grants, a mid-year report is required to account for the use of our grant money.

Technical Coordinator

Total time required: approx. 1-4 hours per concert cycle

This is for any concert which Bryce would like to have some explanations displayed on the scrim above the orchestra.
  • Conductor will provide content.
  • Follow-up with Conductor to provide content.
  • Ask Covey Center Technical Director to provide a Power Point template to use.
  • Put content into Power Point template.
  • Have the slide show ready by Tuesday dress rehearsal.
  • Come to the Tuesday dress rehearsal (at the Covey Center) to be available to the Technical Director as the dress rehearsal progresses.
  • Arrange with the Technical Director at CCA if you need to be there for the Performances or not.



Board Member- Special Guests Coordinator

Total Time required: 1 hour per week, depending on the week.
  • Once the Programming Committee has decided on the concerts, if guests are needed, make contact to find out availability.
  • Make arrangements with groups/guests to perform with UVS.
  • Find out costs, etc.
  • Report to Programming Committee Head (Symphony President)
