Song and Story Family Christmas Concert

Kevin Kling

Start your Christmas season by bringing your family to a concert hosted by the Utah Valley Symphony and the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival. Timpanogos Storytelling's guest Kevin Kling is a celebrated playwright and storyteller, whose commentaries are heard on National Public Radio's All Things Considered. Kling delivers hilarious, often tender stories. His autobiographical tales are as enchanting as they are true to life.

During this concert with the Utah Valley Symphony, Kevin Kling will be telling stories throughout the evening while the Symphony is performing Christmas favorites and accompanying the audience in caroling. Most intriguing will be Kling's enchanting weaving of the birth of Jesus while the Utah Valley Symphony performs Edward Elgar's famous Enigma Variations.

Utah Valley Symphony's conductor, Bryce Rytting says, "When the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival agreed to embark on a joint project with us, they selected Kevin Kling as the storyteller best suited to appear on our annual Christmas Concert. As I listened to Kevin's tales, Elgar's Enigma Variations kept coming to mind. I tried to push the idea aside because I assumed that I should only program music written specifically for the Holidays. But Kevin's stories are full of vibrant character sketches of the people in his life, and Elgar's music seemed the perfect complement. Too perfect to miss."

Elgar's composed the Enigma Variations for people in his life that he greatly admired. As the Christmas season is filled with the people we love and adore, this pairing of song and story will be a most memorable time to share with your loved ones.

How will master storyteller Kevin Kling combine the secular and sacred stories with secular and sacred Christmas music? You will just have to attend to find out.
